Italiani brava gente: vuol dire, rappresentare tante cose...
Released March 23, 1973: KING CRIMSON "Larks Tongues In Aspic". Their fifth studio album. Fripp with a new band featuring the powerhouse talents of John Wetton (bass, vocals), David Cross (violin, mellotron), and Bill Bruford (fresh out of Yes on drums). Plus wacko percussionist Jamie Muir. A dense, dark, menacing masterpiece. Fripp proclaimed in the press "This band will last forever". Muir left after the first tour. Featured the classic title track (parts I & II), "Easy Money", "Book Of Saturday", ... The album peaked at #61 in the US. RIP John Wetton.
Procession moves on, the shouting is over Praise to the glory of loved ones now gone Talking aloud as they sit round their tables Scattering flowers washed down by the rain
Stood by the gate at the foot of the garden Watching them pass like clouds in the sky Try to cry out in the heat of the moment Possessed by a fury that burns from inside
Cry like a child, though these years make me older With children my time is so wastefully spent A burden to keep, though their inner communion Accept like a curse an unlucky deal
Played by the gate at the foot of the garden My view stretches out from the fence to the wall No words could explain, no actions determine Just watching the trees and the leaves as they fall
Here are the young men, the weight on their shoulders Here are the young men, well where have they been? We knocked on the doors of Hell's darker chamber Pushed to the limit, we dragged ourselves in
Watched from the wings as the scenes were replaying We saw ourselves now as we never had seen Portrayal of the trauma and degeneration The sorrows we suffered and never were free
Where have they been? Where have they been? Where have they been? Where have they been?
Weary inside, now our heart's lost forever Can't replace the fear, or the thrill of the chase Each ritual showed up the door for our wanderings Open then shut, then slammed in our face
Where have they been? Where have they been? Where have they been? Where have they been?
Robert Fripp recalls Jimi Hendrix calling King Crimson “the best band in the world”
In a recent interview on Rob Squad and the Creators, King Crimson's Robert Fripp has recounted the band's early years – including a memorable encounter with Jimi Hendrix.
Fripp met Hendrix in 1969 at London's Revolution's Club, a meeting he frequently refers to as “one of the best calling cards any working musician is ever likely to be able to present.”
“This is the hand shaken by the hand of Jimi Hendrix,” he said. “He came to see the band and... was apparently upstairs saying, this is the best band in the world. And he came down to see us, and he came up to me and said, ‘Shake my left hand, man, it's closer to my heart.'”

Remembering Gordon Haskell on what would have been his birthday (27 April 1946 – 15 October 2020) He was an English musician and songwriter. A pop, rock, jazz, country and blues vocalist, guitarist, and bassist, he was a school friend of King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp, the two first working together in Fripp’s mid-1960s teenage group the League of Gentlemen (not to be confused with Fripp’s later new wave band). Haskell first gained recognition as bass player for the British band The Fleur de Lys, and subsequently spent a short period in King Crimson, singing one of the songs on their second album and both singing and playing bass on their third album. After departing from King Crimson, he continued his musical career as a solo musician, finally gaining international recognition in 2001 with his hit song “How Wonderful You Are”, followed by his platinum-selling album Harry’s Bar.
Happy family, one hand clap, four went by and none come back. Brother Judas, ash and sack, swallowed aphrodisiac. Rufus, Silas, Jonah too sang, «We'll blow our own canoes,» Poked a finger in the zoo, punctured all the ballyhoo Whipped the world and beat the clock, wound up with their share of stock. Silver Rolls from golden rock, shaken by a knock, knock, knock. Happy family, wave that grin, what goes round must surely spin; Cheesecake, mousetrap, Grip-Pipe-Thynne cried out, «We're not Rin Tin Tin.» Uncle Rufus grew his nose, threw away his circus clothes Cousin Silas grew a beard, drew another flask of weird Nasty Jonah grew a wife, Judas drew his pruning knife. Happy family one hand clap, four went on but none came back Happy family, pale applause, each to his revolving doors. Silas searching, Rufus neat, Jonah caustic, Jude so sweet.
